High Riser
The importance of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) can be gauged by its regulation of national highways across the country. For nearly two years, NHAI was headless as the position of full-time Chairman fell vacant. And finally, Raghav Chandra has taken over as Chairman. An IAS officer of the 1982 batch Madhya Pradesh cadre, Chandra has held important positions in the Central Government and the government of Madhya Pradesh. With his vast experience in fields of urban and infrastructure development, he has spearheaded crucial assignments in the roads and transport sector. As the government sharpens focus on augmenting infrastructure, especially building 30 km of roads a day in two years from about 15 km at present, Chandra´s appointment to this key post has even more significance. He successfully orchestrated the project preparation and award of national highway road projects of the highest level of projects to be signed in a single year as Joint Secretary Highways, in the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. With a lot more to his credit, Chandra in his new position, is not far from making a huge impact and changing the future of highways in the country.
