Metro man
A long cherished Keralite dream, the Kochi Metro project recently received a boost with Mangu Singh, Managing Director, DMRC signing an agreement with Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL). Singh, with his extensive experience in rail-based transportation projects, is overseeing the execution of the first phase of Rs 5,100-crore project. While DMRC shall be the executing agency, KMRL shall exercise appropriate financial and technical oversight over project execution. The first phase of the transport system will cover about 25 km from Aluva to Pettah. DMRC shall invite tenders on behalf of KMRL and tender documents for works costing more than Rs 10 crore. Singh has studied international metro systems and has also played a key role in developing metro systems in Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and many more. He was also the deputy chief engineer for Kolkata Metro, which was developed during 1989-1996.
