Piyush Goyal Minister of State, Power (independent charge), Coal (independent charge), New and Renewable Energy (independent charge), has been entrusted with the responsibility to resolve fuel bottlenecks and chronic blackouts that hamper the country´s economic growth. The 49-year-old chartered accountant and investment banker was treasurer of BJP and served on the board of the State Bank of India. Goyal has plans to financially turn around the sector through privatisation. Associated with the BJP since 1984, it is hoped that his study of the Gujarat model makes India´s energy sector more powerful and less expensive.
