Ready for the Ride
Being a successor to E Sreedharan, Managing Director, DMRC will not be easy for Mangu Singh, Director-Works, DMRC. The greatest challenge for this 56-year-old civil engineer and Indian Railways Service of Engineers (IRSE) officer would be the overseeing of DMRC's massive network expansion programme involving a capital of around Rs 28,000 crore. Experts, however, have little doubt about Singh's capabilities. An employee of the DMRC for the past 14 years, Singh has assisted Sreedharan on the Kolkata Metro project. Besides being involved in the planning, design and execution of projects, he also heads the organisation's consultancy division. He has held various positions in the operation and management of railways systems and also the planning, procurement and implementation of projects for the Indian Railways. His expertise includes the procurement of works and services for mega projects on design and build contract bases, multilateral funding and developing bid documents for metro projects on PPP basis. A recipient of a National Award for his contribution to Indian Railway, Singh is widely known to be methodical and hardworking. His expertise in execution of underground sections of the metro network would prove useful in constructing and managing the underground sections in phase I and II of Delhi Metro.
