Karan Adani, CEO, Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) is making headlines. APSEZ has signed a share purchase agreement with Larsen and Toubro to acquire 97 per cent stake in Marine Infrastructure Developers (MIDPL), the company which operated and developed Kattupalli Port near Chennai, for Rs 19.5 billion. The port is known to be one of the most modern ones in the country and is turning out to be a new gateway for EXIM trade in the Chennai, Bengaluru region. Adani reportedly intends to evolve the port into a multi-commodity port for managing. Further, under Adani's aegis, India's biggest private port operator is also reportedly planning to ramp up the capacity of Kattupalli Port to handle a whopping 259 million tonne of cargo from its existing 24.65 mt.
