India’s first hi-speed train project, Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) to connect Panipat with Delhi in 50 minutes, was recently initiated by Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System Ltd, under the leadership of Rakesh Mehta, Chairman. The project will comprise an elevated and dedicated train corridor of 103.5 km for the high speed connectivity which is likely to connect Delhi and Panipat in 45 minutes nonstop and maximum of 60 minutes with stops. The project is designed on the lines of hi-speed corridors in South Africa, France, Japan, UK, and Sweden. The train will have average speed of 200 km per hour. It will run at an interval of 10 minutes and halt at 10 stations. The project, to be implemented jointly by the state and Central Government, will later be extended to Chandigarh too. The hi-speed RRTS would not only help one lakh people move to the township, but will also boost the real estate sector as well.
