Centre sanctions 1,657 cr for rural power scheme

The Centre has so far sanctioned around Rs 1,657 crore under the Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY) for Odisha of which the state government has spent Rs 20 crore.The DDUGJY, the erstwhile Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana, was launched to provide electricity to all rural households and to ensure electrification of all villages. The scheme is being implemented through the Rural Electrification Corporation, which has been designated as the nodal agency for the project by the Ministry of Power.
