Centre to set up national discom

The Union Government will reportedly establish a national power distribution company to handhold state discoms in electricity distribution and ensure time-bound implementation of central schemes. The company will compete with private firms to bag contracts of state-run distribution companies for appointing franchisees or engineering tenders. The Central Government proposes to have a national level distribution corporation working jointly with state governments for implementation of various power distribution activities.
