Himachal to generate 15,000 MW by 2017

The Himachal Pradesh State Power Transmission Corporation will execute a Rs 2,000 crore power evacuation project to evacuate power generated on the water of five major rivers in the state. The foundation stone of the 33 kV sub-station at Fojal in Kullu district has already been laid. The state had hydel power potential of more than 23,000 MW, of which, only 2,838 MW was generated till 1998; this increased to about 8,000 MW and 1,000 MW more would be added in the near future.
