Iffco's UMPP in Chhattisgarh stalled due to environ clearance
Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative's proposal to set up 1,320 MW coal pithead based plant in Sarguja district of Chhattisgarh has failed to get the necessary environment and forest clearances. The Ministry of Environment rejected the project as the proposed coal mining area comes under the government's no-go area. A new entity, Iffco Chhattisgarh Power Ltd (ICPL) was formed in January 2006 to implement the project, while a JV between ICPL and Chhattisgarh Mineral Development Corporation called CMDC IPCL Coal Ltd was to develop the coal block.
