The Jammu and Kashmir government has requested the Centre to allow it to draw additional 500 MW power beyond the allocated quota to help the state meet increased electricity requirements during the harsh winter season. The state was embarking on a multi-pronged strategy to expedite the process of harnessing 20,000 MW hydel power potential in the state.
