The Karnataka government has urged the Union Government to set up an Ultra Mega Power Project (UMPP) in the coastal Dakshina Kannada district. The Central Mine Planning and Design Institute (CMPDI) has opined that taking into account the parameters laid down for locating the site for UMPP in coastal zone of Karnataka, two sites 'Divgi and Honnavar 'could be possibly considered for examination. A suitable site in Niddodi village of Mangalore taluka, Dakshina Kannada district is also being considered for the site.
