According to the Union Steel Ministry, the domestic demand for finished steel (alloy+non-alloy) may reach 113.3 mn tonne by 2016-17, the terminal year of the Twelfth Five Year Plan, from the 65.6 mn tonne level (provisional) reached in 2010-11. Steel is a deregulated sector, and supply against demand is made by steel producers located all over the country.
