Reliance Power can breathe a sigh of relief with the Northern Coalfields (NCL) ceding the land required to explore both the Moher and Moher Amlohri mines. This will fuel the former’s Sasan and Chitrangi power projects of 4,000 MW each, built in Madhya Pradesh at an investment of Rs 36,000 crore. If the Coal Ministry approves the land transfer, Reliance Power can access around 58 mn tonne of coal worth approximately Rs 6,264 crore at the current prices. NCL had denied transferring the required land to Sasan Power saying that such a move would violate the Coal Bearing Areas Act, 1973.
