Seven power projects in NE await environmental clearance

Seven power projects in the north-east, including four in Arunachal, two in Sikkim and one in Meghalaya, are awaiting green clearance. The appraisal of development projects, including mega power projects of the central and state governments, are undertaken under the provisions of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Notification, 2006. The notification provides a 105-day time limit for taking a decision after receipt of complete information from the project proponents.

In the mean-time, the government has sanctioned development projects under the Non-Lapsable Central Pool of Resources scheme, Bodo Territorial Council, Special Infrastructure Development Fund (SIDF) and through the NEC.
