The Andhra Pradesh Government will augment around 25 lakh acre of arable land in the next few years.In the first phase, it will spend Rs 7,000 crore to bring in five lakh acre of arable land each in 2011 and 2012. The government will kick off the programme by launching water harvesting structures and building other relevant infrastructure on October 2, this year. It will implement this in 211 blocks, with each block covering not less than 10,000 acres. Majority of the beneficiaries would be Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe members.
