Coal supply in India to reach 750 mn tonne by 2017

The Planning Commission expects domestic coal supplies to be around 750 mn tonne by 2017. Domestic coal demand would be 1,000 mn tonne by 2017. India has the world’s fifth-largest coal reserves and produces the most after China and the US. India’s coal demand is seen at around 772 mn tonne against an expected supply of about 580 mn tonne in the fiscal to March 2013.
