Government to amend gas policy to accommodate Dadri power plant

The government may amend its natural gas allocation priorities to accommodate gas supply to the proposed Dadri power plant of Reliance Natural Resources Ltd. The 7,480 MW plant will be the single-largest gas-based power plant at a single location in the world. The gas supply deal between Reliance Industries and Reliance Natural Resources Ltd had landed in a legal dispute as the former had no right to sell gas to any company without government approval. Recently, the Supreme Court upheld the government's sovereignty of full rights over the natural resources and had asked the two companies to re-negotiate the gas supply deal within the parameters of the existing policies.
