Having already built a port in Myanmar, India now plans to set up a SEZ in Sittwe. The proposed SEZ will be a direct rival to a Chinese SEZ, which is located 80 km down Sittwe and being developed as an economic hub for Delhi. The SEZ being planned aims at expanding India´s footprints in South East Asia. This is amid China´s plan for a massive road and port connectivity project in the region as part of its One Belt One Road initiative.
