The New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) has been urged to take up the issue of the new Hubli-Ankola railway line with the union government. The Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) opined at the 'Trade Meet' held at Hubli that the new railway line will reduce travel time and distance between north Karnataka and the coastal region. The new railway line proposed by the Indian Railways also offers hinterland access to port facilities, but it is stuck with the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF). The new line is expected facilitate both imports-exports from the region and also boost NMPT business by 30 to 40 per cent.
