Salboni steel plant to commence by July 2010
JSW Steel Ltd plans to commence work on the project at Salboni by July 2010. Phase one involving an investment of about Rs 12,000 crore is likely to have a capacity of 3 mtpa. The project is slated to be completed in 30 months.
Work on the project was stalled due to the economic slowdown and a slump in demand for steel in the international market. Threat from Maoists was also one of the reasons for the disruption. Japan-based JFE Steel Corporation is expected to pick up a stake varying between 26 and 40 per cent in the project.
