Sesa Sterlite has approved the development of Gamsberg-Skorpion Integrated Zinc project in South Africa and Namibia for $782 mn, to be invested over a three-year period. The amount will be spent on the development of open pit zinc mine in Gamsberg, South Africa, and the conversion of Skorpion Zinc Refinery in Namibia. Majority of the investment, around $630 mn, will go towards developing an open-pit zinc mine, concentrator plant and associated infrastructure at Gamsberg. The balance investment will be used to convert the refinery so that it can refine zinc concentrates from the Gamsberg mine into special high grade zinc meta.
