The Maharastra Government recently urged the Union Government to expedite the Coastal Road Project, which also includes a sewage treatment plant at Malad in Mumbai. The Rs 12,000 crore coastal road, along the city´s western coast, will connect south Mumbai and Malad, and is being positioned as a project that could change the way Mumbai commutes. However, it requires reclamation of land from the sea and mangroves. Meanwhile, permissions for the Malad sewage plant is also pending with the department and awaiting the environment ministry´s nod.
