The Tamil Nadu state highways department has eight new projects for the city -including foot over-bridges and subways - on the drawing board, worth around Rs 320 crore. Among the big projects awaiting government approval is a Rs 125-crore grade separator over the Medavakkam-Mambakkam junction, a Rs 30-crore bridge in Nolambur and Rs 60-crore grade separator in Kilkattalai. A Rs 60-crore flyover on 200 Feet Road, connecting Pallavaram and Thoraipakkam will complement the link road that connects ECR and OMR, which the state highways department will lay. The 1.4 km road will connect Neelankarai on East Coast Road and Thoraipakkam on Old Mahabalipuram Road. A four-lane bypass road will be constructed from Kuttaiyur to Mettupalayam.
