The Centre has given its nod to develop an international airport at Halwara, 32 km from Ludhiana. The announcement comes following a proposal being sent by Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh to the Central Government for allowing civilian flights from Halwara Air Force Station. A team of officers of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) reportedly visited Halwara for a survey and also prepared a detailed project report (DPR) for the proposed airport.
