The Karaikal Port, which is emerging as a bulk and break-bulk cargo terminal, handled over 0.5 mn tonne of various types of cargo in the past nine months. It is envisaged to have a total of nine berths capable of handling 47 mtpa by 2016 and is to be developed in three phases.
