The costs of upgrading these airports were Rs 2,325 crore and Rs 2,015 crore, respectively. The Kolkata airport can now handle 25 mn passengers a year. Apart from the 195,000-sq-m, five-level passenger terminal building, the airport has modern taxiways and an extended runway to handle bigger jets like the Airbus A-380. The modernisation of the Chennai airport saw its annual passenger handling capacity go up to 23 mn from 9 mn. Contact: Ministry of Civil Aviation. Tel: 011-2461 0350. Website: www.civilaviation.gov.in
