MP to undertake maintenance and repair of highways

The Madhya Pradesh Government has the maintenance and repair of national highways in the state. The state government has spent Rs 120 crore besides utilising the funds provided by the Centre. On December 16, 2009, it handed over the away maintenance and reconstruction work of the 3,828 km highways to the NHAI, who ignored the works and hence, the maintenance work of 1,460 km long roads was handed over to the Madhya Pradesh Government. The responsibility of maintaining the 2,341 km long national highways was given to the NH wing of the Public Works Department.
