The East-West Metro Corridor project in Kolkata may be delayed further and its cost may escalate manifold due to the proposed change in its alignment. The 14 km long metro corridor project connecting Howrah with Salt Lake will be executed at an estimated cost of Rs 4,874 crore, out of which Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will provide Rs 2,253 crore as soft loan. The West Bengal Government proposed a change in the alignment of the project because of hurdles in land acquisition issues.
