The Finance Minitry has announced that more airports in Tier-II and Tier-III cities will be developed. The government plans to build 200 airports in small cities in the next few years. The Airport Authority of India aims to develop the airports through public private partnership initiatives. Non-metro airports in the country currently account for only about 30 per cent of the total air traffic, this is expected to rise to 45 per cent with this initiative. Additionally, the government also intends to construct 15 of the 200 airports under the greenfield airport policy.
