Mount Road Metro in Chennai, initially scheduled to be completed by March 2016, will now be ready by 2017 owing to lack of funds. In the Government Estate-Saidapet stretch, constructed by Gammon India and Russian firm OJSC Mosmetrostroy, only two tunnel boring machines stationed in the underbelly of Mount Road are operational of the four. The underground station sites, which need at least 2,000 workers for the existing work schedule, have been working at half strength.
