A large timber ship, MV Riva Wind was berthed at New Mangalore Port on April 17, 2014. The ship carried 11,000 imported logs from Yangon, Myanmar on April 9, 2014. With a deadweight tonnage of 53,533 and an overall length of 190 m, the ship carried out unloading operations at the Indian port. In 2013-14, the port handled 3.13 lakh tonne as against 2.47 lakh tonne the previous fiscal, a growth rate of 27 per cent.
