In the Railway budget for 2011-12, Union Railway ministry has announced a slew of proposals to boost the rail-based industries. The budget plans to set up a bridge factory in Jammu & Kashmir, as the J&K rail link project involves a large number of bridges. This industry will help in developing ancillary industries in the area. The Ministry proposes to set up a diesel locomotive centre in Manipur. The Ministry also proposed to set up two more wagon units under Joint Venture/Public Private Partnership mode, one each at Kolar and Alappuzha, Kerala and one more at Buniadpur.
