Aiming to begin construction on the 33 km first underground Metro line in the city by March 2016, Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation will finalise EPC contractors for the more than Rs 23,000 crore project by the end of 2015. This is the second leg of the Mumbai Metro, with operations scheduled to begin in 2019. The company has shortlisted nine consortia including Afcons Infrastructure, Tata Projects, Larsen & Toubro, J Kumar Infraprojects and IL&FS Engineering and Construction.
