In the last fiscal, the South Central Railways has achieved an 8 per cent increase in freight loading due to increased movement of coal and fertilisers. The zone handled 111.5 mn tonne of cargo during the year against 103.2 mn tonne in the previous year. The earnings from freight touched Rs 7,468 crore, accounting for 74 per cent of its total earnings for the year. Coal loading registered an increase of 17 per cent due to increased production by Singareni Collieries.
