A section of the Central Railway in Mumbai which was on the 1,500 V DC electric traction since 1925 has been converted to 25,000 V AC traction, saving 15-20 minutes of travel time and Rs 81 crore a year. Trains will receive electric traction from Tata Power instead of Maharashtra State Electricity Board (MSEB), as Tata Power will provide cheaper electricity.
