Three port projects get PPP clearance
The Public-Private Partnership Approval Committee (PPPAC), a government panel, has approved three projects worth over Rs 7,700 crore to be developed through public-private partnership (PPP) mode.
These projects include development of the fourth container terminal at Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNPT), Navi Mumbai, developing a standalone container handling facility with quay length of 330 m north of NSICT terminal at JNPT (Rs 600 crore) and mechanisation of coal handling facilities and upgrade of general cargo berth in the outer harbour of the Visakhapatnam Port. The Shipping Ministry is revising certain policy guidelines so that monopoly is prevented while awarding PPP projects. All the three projects approved by PPPAC will be awarded by March 2010.
