Work begins on Panipat-Jalandhar expressway

The Supreme Court has brought relief to Soma group, the developer of the Panipat-Jalandhar project, by allowing the toll plaza to be shifted from the expressway. With the verdict, construction of the stalled six-lane, 291-km expressway between Panipat and Jalandhar has resumed. The apex court had set aside an earlier verdict of the Punjab and Haryana High Court that had allowed the National Highways Authority of India to take over the project after the Soma-led consortium expressed difficulties in completing the remaining 41 km stretch due to a financially impeding technical reason.
