100 per cent Centre funding for Northeast projects

The Union Government has decided to fund central projects in Northeast India by 100 per cent. Projects worth Rs 102 bn, including Rs 35 bn of new works, are currently being implemented in the eight states of the region.

To encourage public transport, the Centre has asked states and Union Territories to develop modern bus ports with a host of facilities. 


AIIB okays $400 mn water and sanitation projects

AIIB has approved a loan to provide safe drinking water through a piped water supply. The project components include water supply, sanitation and drainage pilots in five selected ULBs, and institutional component.


DMRC to run on PPP model

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has approved the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to run on a PPP model. The private player will be decided through a bidding process. 


Nod for 11 new town planning schemes

The Gujarat Chief Minister has approved 11 new town planning schemes (TPs), including eight in Ahmedabad. 180 hectare is expected to be used for roads, and 195 hectare for parks.

Fresh tenders invited for Chamba cement plant

The Himachal Pradesh Government has invited fresh tenders for the Chamba cement plant. In order to attract bidders, a decision has been taken to construct the road up to the project site at about Rs 150 mn. 


Dalmia Bharat to roll out fast-curing cement

Dalmai Bharat Cement has launched a chemically-modified cement variant, Infra Green, which reduces the curing time from three to four weeks to three days. The company has spent Rs 1 bn for R&D of this cement. 


Shree Cement to set up plants in Jharkhand, Odisha

In order to enhance its presence in east India, Shree Cement is planning to invest Rs 10 bn to set up grinding units in Jharkhand and Odisha in a year.


Sagar Cements to invest in Satguru, Jajpur Cements

Sagar Cements is planning an investment of Rs 1.5 bn in Satguru Cements to set-up a greenfield cement plant of 1 mn tonne along with WHR power plant at Rs 4.26 bn in Indore. 


South cement manufacturers draw up expansion plans

Manufactures such as Chettinad, Ramco and India Cements are readying plans to expand capacities or set up new factories as the demand for cement is reportedly recovering in southern India.
