Aurangabad Smart City, civic body to devise healthy streets policy

01 May 2022

The Aurangabad Smart City Development Corporation Limited (ASCDCL), along with Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), is preparing to develop a healthy streets policy.

The policy will enable all the citizens, irrespective of caste, gender and race to move around the city, using different modes of transport with ease, comfort and low cost.

According to the policy, the streets must facilitate access to several economic and social opportunities that the city provides.

According to ASCDCL, the streets of Aurangabad have been vehicular-centric for a long time. For sustainable mobility and an inclusive futuristic city, the future roads must be designed and planned innovatively.

The civic bodies had started collecting city-level fundamental data and information from the citizens for shaping the policy.

The citizens are urged to participate in the survey and help formulate the policy to best-suited for Aurangabad.

The survey asks for citizen details, including age, profession, type of vehicles in use and the various mode of transport of citizens. It gauges public perception in several aspects, including safety and comfort while travelling, transportation fares, parking and fuel expenditure.

Other focus areas include seeking public feedback on the problems faced by the citizens, including road accidents, fear of crossing the roads, missing zebra crossing, and absence of pedestrian signals and facilities regarding bus stops.
