CMRS inspection may pave the way for Bengaluru's metro line

01 Sep 2023

The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has also informed commuters of disruptions in metro train services on the purple line. BMRCL stated, "In view of the Statutory Safety Inspection of the newly constructed Line between Baiyappanahalli to Krishnarajapuram Metro Stations on 21.09.2023 by Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (Southern Circle), there will be changes to the Metro Train Operations."

The following interruptions are expected: - Train services will be unavailable between Krishnarajapuram and Garudacharpalya for the entire day. - Services between Baiyyappanahalli and Indiranagar will be interrupted from 1.30 pm to 4.30 pm.

Meanwhile, the CMRS inspection of the Kengeri - Challaghatta line on the purple line has reportedly been delayed once again.

BMRCL initially aimed to inaugurate the KR Puram ? Baiyappanahalli line by mid-July, but it was postponed to September. Once operational, this purple line extension is expected to significantly improve public transport in Bengaluru, particularly for those commuting to Whitefield, home to numerous tech parks employing individuals from various parts of the city. The 2km stretch will connect eastern Bengaluru to several areas in the south and central parts of the city, potentially alleviating traffic congestion in the Whitefield area if residents opt for the metro as their preferred mode of commute.

The previous BJP-led government had launched the Whitefield ? KR Puram line but faced criticism for delays in completing the works on this critical stretch. BMRCL clarified that the installation of an open web grinder above Benniganahalli railway station required approval from Indian Railways. The stretch between KR Puram and Baiyappanahalli will feature only one metro station, Jyotipuram.
