Contractors selected for Western Bypass Project

In what can be considered good news for Shillong, which is grappling with traffic congestion, the much-anticipated Western Bypass project has finally been assigned to construction companies.

According to the project's status report on the NHIDCL website, the construction of the 37-km two-lane Shillong Western Bypass, with paved shoulders, from Lad Umsaw to Baniun in Upper Shillong, has been divided into three segments.

Package-I, spanning 12 km, has been awarded to Anusha Projects (Hyderabad) — BKD Infrastructures (Odisha) (a joint venture), at an awarded cost of Rs 1.85 billion. The project was sanctioned with a budget of Rs 6.20 billion.

Package-II, covering 11.9 km, has been awarded to Narendra Sharma – T K Engineering Consortium (Arunachal Pradesh) (a joint venture), at an awarded cost of Rs 1.99 billion, while the sanctioned cost is Rs 6.86 billion.

Package-III, comprising 13 km, has been awarded to BRN Infrastructures (Jaipur), at an awarded cost of Rs 1.54 billion, against the sanctioned cost of Rs 5.62 billion.
