India is building hydrogen-powered trains, which would be ready in 2023, according to Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. Speaking at SOA University in Bhubaneswar, the Minister stated that work on the Gati Shakti terminals initiative is progressing swiftly and that Indian Railways is striving to connect the country's distant and underserved areas to the railway network.

According to the minister, the Vandebharat Express, a semi-high speed and one of the fastest trains, was developed indigenously with in-house technology in India and has been running smoothly without any major breakdowns for the last two years. He also stated that more Vandebharat Express trains are being produced at ICF and will soon be put into service.

Recently, the Railway Safety Commissioner gave the go-ahead for Vande Bharat.
