The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) has decided to deploy its specialised engineering wing for constructing strategic roads and foot tracks along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) to speed up connectivity projects in Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh.
The project was approved by the Home Minister, which comes from a military standoff with China. ITBP had taken up 32 road construction under the phase-II project of the Indo-China Border Roads project and two from the total 18-foot tracks sanctioned by the government. The engineers and supervisors of ITBP will plan and monitor the construction project, and a ground force will be hired, including masons and labourers. In such regions the road constructions are carried out by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), Central Public Works Department (CPWD), and other relevant agencies. The engineering wing of the ITBP has been given the task to speed up the border posts connectivity work. In such locations, getting contractors and construction workers is not easy. The construction work of border roads remains slow. The government is focusing on ensuring connectivity through the roads for transporting rations, movement of troops, and other logistics activity along the LAC can be easily moved. Image Source
