Maha govt no longer needs to approve Mhada redevelopment projects

01 Sep 2022

Redevelopment projects sanctioned by the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (Mhada) will no longer require approval from the housing department, overturning yet another judgement of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA).

In response to the Patra Chawl Redevelopment Scam, the MVA issued a circular in March 2019 requiring housing department authorization for all Mhada projects.

Currently, the government is granted both administrative and approving authorities. For development projects to be completed quickly, decentralisation of these authorities is necessary. The situation must remain the same as it was before to the publication of the March 2021 circular.
