A subsidiary of Coal India Limited, Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), intends to construct a Rs 120 billion power plant in Odisha in order to expand into power generation.The 1,600 megawatt coal-fired power project would be built in the Sundargarh district of Odisha as a MCL-owned subsidiary, according to sources.
Additionally, MCL intends to enter the aluminium industry and may soon launch a new aluminium project. The mini ratna company is trying to find a bauxite mine for this purpose right now. A pre-feasibility report for the establishment of an integrated aluminium project in Odisha had been approved by the board of Coal India in October 2021.
