The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has disbursed a total Central Financial Assistance (CFA) of Rs 31.35 billion over the past three years for the installation of grid-connected rooftop solar systems in households under phase-II of the grid-connected rooftop solar programme, as informed by the Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy and Power, Shripad Naik, in a written response to Parliament on 30 July 2024. ?As of 26 July 2024, a total of 12.9 million registrations and 15.27 lakh applications have been received from consumers on the scheme?s National Portal,? stated Naik in his reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha. Naik also highlighted the significant increase in India?s renewable energy installed capacity, which has grown from 76.38 GW in March 2014 to 195.01 GW in June 2024 ? a 2.55 times increase. This includes 85.47 GW of solar power, 46.93 GW of large hydro, 46.66 GW of wind power, 10.95 GW of bio-power, and 5.00 GW of small hydro power. In response to a separate question, Naik noted the country's remarkable progress in expanding renewable energy capacity, particularly in the solar and wind power sectors. "Solar power installed capacity has surged from 2.82 GW in 2014 to 85.47 GW as of 30 June 2024, while wind power capacity has increased from 21.04 GW in 2014 to 46.66 GW as of 30 June 2024," he added. The PM-Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana was launched on February 13, 2024, aiming to install rooftop solar plants in 10 million households. The total financial outlay for the scheme is Rs 750.21 billion. The previous phase-II of the grid-connected rooftop solar programme has been integrated into this new scheme, including the remaining financial outlay and liabilities, effective from its launch on February 13, 2024.
