Dr. Akihiko Tanaka, President of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), recently visited India for the first time and visited projects that JICA has funded, including the Mumbai Trans Harbour Sealink (MTHL). During his visit, Tanaka also met with Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who solicited funds for two additional projects - the underground metro line 11 (Wadala-CSMT) and the Mumbai-Goa coastal highway greenfield project. The proposed coastal highway will be modeled after California's picturesque coastal road.

The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC), which is responsible for the Metro line 3 project, has recently been given the responsibility of the Metro line 11 project from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). JICA has already funded the underground Metro 3 project.

During his visit to the MTHL site, Tanaka expressed his satisfaction with the construction work being undertaken by MMRDA and his appreciation for the Indo-Japanese cooperation. He also expressed his anticipation for future collaborations on large-scale infrastructure projects, such as the Versova-Virar Sea bridge, according to the MMRDA.
