The downward spiral in prices faced by the cement industry has become a major cause of concern. Besides, the rising input costs are expected to put pressure on margins of cement companies. The first quarter results are expected to be hit owing to the downward movement in cement prices which has taken place because of excess supply. The cement prices are likely to dip by 5 to 7 per cent after the monsoons when the construction activity begins. Nevertheless, the first quarter results are expected to better than the results in the ensuing two quarters.
