India Cements expects demand to rise in key markets

01 Nov 2020

With further relaxation of lockdown measures, India Cement expects increased public spending on rural infrastructure, irrigation, road building and other projects. The firm is anticipating that this, along with a pick-up in individual home building and construction, is expected to improve cement demand. It expects demand to pick up in its key markets such as Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, in addition to the release of pent-up demand and rural sales. The two southern states as well as Maharashtra witnessed a steep decline in demand due to deferment of spending on major projects by the newly elected state governments during 2019-20. Cement prices, which started improving from February 2019, went down after the first quarter of last year.
